Deep Tissue Massage

A Deep Tissue massage is a modality used to release chronic patterns of muscular tension and is usually performed on a focused problem area.  This massage is done with greater pressure and effects deeper layers of muscles than a traditional Swedish/relaxation massage.  Some of the same strokes are used as in a Swedish massage, but the movements are generally slower, the pressure is deeper, and there is a focus on areas of tension and pain.  Deep Tissue massage works by breaking down adhesions in chronically tense and contracted areas which is the common culprit for stiff necks, lower back tension, and sore shoulders.
